Northwest HealthCare, six miles west of Christian, offers 24- hour emergency care, the Sleep Disorders Center and a variety of outpatient diagnostic and imaging services.
Histology Laboratory performs a wide variety of routine histotechnologic procedures & histochemical stains. Our Immunohistochemistry area performs over 100 antibodies on both tissue sections & cytology specimens.

Role Purpose
Focuses on the daily supervision of the Histology and/or Cytology laboratory staff as well as performance and development of routine and custom histologic and/or cytologic assays. Responsible for managing daily operations of complex histological and cytological tests and procedures on tissue samples (QA/QC, equipment maintenance, workflow, service levels, operational oversight, workspace), staff (first level supervision, scheduling, coaching, staff development, CD, etc.) and performing analysis within the regulatory requirements for cytology and/or histology. Ensures processing systems are functioning properly and samples are processed in a timely manner, with sufficient quality, and delivered to pathology and analytical laboratory as expected.
Responsibilities
Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
Develops and adheres to departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets. Responds to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
Schedules staff and assign work to ensure that laboratory procedures are performed promptly proficiently, and accurately. (When necessary the supervisor is expected to perform tasks routinely assigned to direct reports.)
Responsible for Supervising laboratory activities, monitoring test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of performance are maintained. Assure all remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from established performance specifications. Ensure patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and the test system is properly functioning. Oversees and manages processes of safe handling and disposition of remains. Ensures par levels of supplies are maintained.
Act as a liaison between the histology laboratory staff and various functional groups including, but not limited to, customer service, analytical laboratory, process and service engineering, information technology, human resources, and materials management groups.
Establishes histology and cytology workflows and processes that support hospital and clinic service lines. Works with medical director to design and complete complex validation of immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescent antibodies. Manages unique histological testing for neuropathology (brain), pediatric pathology, non-decalcified bone and whole orbit ophthalmic pathology. Coordinates daily workflows to distribute histology slides to outside hospitals and clinics. Prepares lab scheduling for 24/7 operation.
