• | Serves as a lead PWCS instructor for the Insulin/Glucagon Training to provide required instruction to all newly assigned school nurses and staff members, also referred to as unlicensed assistive personnel (UAPs) and designated by building principals to provide care for diabetic students in the nurse’s absence | |
• | Conducts frequent Insulin/Glucagon Training classes each school year for PWCS | |
• | Provides additional Insulin/Glucagon training as needed to PWCS Athletic Trainers, Transportation Staff, Coaches, etc. | |
• | Supports the development and implementation of standardized practices across all PWCS school clinics | |
• | Partners with the other DRN to serve the school nurses of PWCS as a subject matter expert, consultant, educator, resource person, and facilitator, in addition to serving as an advocate to parents/guardians, the students with diabetes, the health care provider, and school staff | |
• | Assists the school nurses and the clinical team leaders in the interpretation and implementation of Diabetes Medical Management Plans (DMMPs), Student Health Services (SHS) policies and regulations, Diabetes Management in Schools: Manual for Unlicensed Personnel, National Diabetes Education Program-Helping the Student with Diabetes Succeed: A Guide for School Personnel, and American Diabetes Association-Helping the Student with Diabetes Succeed: A Guide for School Personnel | |
• | Assists the school nurses with planning effective strategies to address identified needs to ensure student safety and well-being | |
• | Provides consultation in intervention, IEP, 504, and parent meetings, in addition to other school health-related behavior concerns | |
• | Maintains a monthly assignment calendar with prioritizing the needs of respective schools | |
• | Maintains district-wide data regarding students with Diabetes (Type I, II, and other) in PWCS | |
• | Participates in quality improvement initiatives by maintaining documentation of school needs, areas of improvement, and progress of improvement | |
• | Works collaboratively with all stakeholders: students, parents, school personnel, health care providers, business partners, and community agencies/organizations to support PWCS students with diabetes and school nurses | |
• | Demonstrates flexibility when providing coverage for colleagues during extended absences or when deemed necessary | |
• | Facilitates establishing a positive environment for achieving healthy outcomes | |
• | Builds trusting relationships with the school nurses by utilizing two-way communication, honesty, and transparency | |
• | Establishes and maintains cooperative and effective working relationships with others | |
• | Reports to work on a regular and punctual basis as scheduled | |
• | Attends regularly scheduled meetings with the SHS leadership team when necessary and provides feedback as requested | |
• | Develops, implements, and evaluates assigned projects | |
• | Performs all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total SHS program | |
