To make an impact as the RN, Certified Diabetes Educator, you will be responsible for the educational component as outlined by the American Diabetes Association’s Continued Recognition Program Standards, including:
Providing assessment and education to newly diagnosed, established and hospitalized patients with diabetes mellitus at the University of Florida and patients referred to the UF Pediatric Diabetes Clinic.
Creating and maintaining diabetes education materials for newly diagnosed and established patients.
Assessing patients' knowledge, skills, comprehension, compliance and educational needs to determine essential diabetes management education.
Providing follow-up on lab values and home blood glucose results via telephone, email and EMR, as well as communicating results and therapeutic adjustments to the physician and patient.
Completing forms required by schools for insulin distribution and obtaining pre-authorizations as needed.
Delivering diabetes self-management education (DSME), including participation in insulin pump and continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) programs, organizing classes and initiating insulin pump and CGM treatment.
Handling billing and follow-up with pharmaceutical companies for insulin pump training.
Participating in pediatric diabetes studies by identifying and recruiting appropriate subjects.
To make an impact as a dietician clinician at UF Health Shands Hospital, you will:
Provide clinical nutrition care, applying knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan.
Assess patient data, evaluate nutritional status and develop, implement, monitor and document nutrition care plans.
Serve as a resource for age-specific education materials and instruct dietetic students.
To achieve excellence in this full-time RN, diabetes educator role, we’re looking for candidates with a bachelor’s degree, plus:
Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Current licensure by the State of Florida as a registered nurse.
Experience in diabetes management with CDCES certification or eligibility is strongly preferred.
Current certification as a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) as outlined by the American Diabetes Association Continued Recognition Program Standards or eligible to obtain CDE.
Proven ability to problem-solve and be a team member is essential.
BLS certification is required or must be obtained at first opportunity for employment.
To achieve excellence as a dietician at UF Health Shands, candidates:
Must have passed or be eligible to take the ADA registration exam and be licensed, or eligible for licensure, as a dietician/nutritionist in Florida.
You must obtain both ADA registration and Florida licensure as a dietician/nutritionist within six months of employment. Failure to meet these requirements will result in termination of employment.
