The role you’ll contribute:

The role of the Diabetes Education Specialist is to perform professional consultation and educational services for persons with diabetes. The program will include developing and implementing prevention strategies as well as providing education to diabetic clients and their families.Responsible for the curriculum development for courses offered to nurses, patients and their families. Train and educate nursing staff in diabetes and health clinical procedures; coordinates in-service training, continuing education, and other related diabetes and health clinical training. Responsible to monitor the glycemic outcomes for the organization and develop appropriate action plans.

Provides diabetes management and care orientation to new staff and students.
Functions as a resource, mentor and clinical expert on diabetes management for the hospital.
Participates as a member of the Glycemic Management Ad Hoc Team.
Assists with reviewing and disseminating diabetes program quality improvement and outcomes data.
Flexes schedule when needed in absence of other Education Team Members
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
Experience with current diabetes treatments and management with inpatient and out-patient populations.
Valid license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Florida required
Must have current AHA BLS certification.
Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) or Board Certified - Advanced Diabetes Management (BC-ADM) required. Must provide proof of CDE certification or ability to obtain in 6 months.
