Job Summary
The Podiatrist provides routine health maintenance, management of chronic conditions, and management of acute illness related to the foot and ankle in an inpatient & outpatient setting. Performs diagnostic, preventive and/or therapeutic podiatric services. Duties also include providing appropriate referrals to other providers for problems identified by health assessments, assisting administration in planning for delivery of Podiatric medicine as requested and providing consultation to other providers as needed. This podiatrist will provide clinical services in Wake County locations, with operative cases at Duke Raleigh Hospital. The podiatrist will spend time at the Duke Raleigh Wound Healing Center seeing new outpatient referrals and ensuring continuity of care with prior inpatient consults upon discharge from the hospital. They will treat a growing volume of inpatients and outpatients in need of diabetic foot and wound care, including debridements and appropriate level amputations within the foot.
Job Responsibilities and Duties
Perform an appropriate medical history and examination of the patient.
Assess patient's Foot & Ankle condition and develop a treatment plan.
Diagnose and treat disorders, diseases and injuries of the foot and lower leg.
Treatment of complex diabetic foot infections in accordance with evidence-based protocols.
Order and prescribe treatment by physical medicine and therapy.
Document care and treatment provided in a legible format.
Communicate with facility Administration regarding patient conditions or concerns.
Treats conditions such as corns, calluses, ingrown nails and abscesses.
Participates in patient care audits for quality assurance and utilization review to maintain and improve patient care standard of excellence.
Advises patients about treatments and foot care techniques to prevent future problems.
Keep abreast of emerging models in health care delivery; identify and define new and innovative strategies to achieve business goals and objectives.
Ensure compliance with local city, state, and federal regulations.
Provide medical orders for prescription refills, administration of medications, ancillary testing, and/or referrals.
Review ancillary test results and coordinates notification to the patient. Completes appropriate paperwork to comply with insurance and reimbursement guidelines.
Completes all documentation and paperwork in a timely manner.
Job Eligibility Requirements
Education
Graduate of accredited Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) School
Certification
ABPM or ABFAS
License
Current unrestricted medical license issued by the NC Board of Podiatry Examiners with authorization to practice as a podiatrist.
Current Fed and State DEA prescriptive authority.
Experience
Experience is preferred, but not required.
Other:
Ideal candidates should offer experience ensuring high quality, coordinated care for a complex patient population. They will understand community podiatric care and efficient delivery care paths, and will be an integral member of a multidisciplinary care team on the inpatient and outpatient sides in the care and management of this important patient population.
Job Hours
Typically Monday- Friday 8am-4pm, with with no call and no weekends.
