The position of resident or fellow entails provision of patient care matching with the individual level of advancement, competence, and defined medical specialty. A resident/fellow responsibilities include patient care activities within the scope of their clinical privileges commensurate with the level of training, attendance at clinical rounds and seminars, timely completion of medical records, and other responsibilities as assigned or as required of all members of the medical staff. Under the supervision of attending physicians.This position contains two rotations. Forty percent of the fellows time is spent with the Adult Primary Care Behavioral Health Program (PCBH) at Geisinger Health System's Mount Pleasant Clinic, and the other sixty percent is within the Cancer Center at Geisinger Wyoming Valley. This position is in Scranton PA area with Dr. Kylie Oleski and Dr. Ashley Perez serving as supervisors. The fellow will provide clinical care for patients under the supervision of attending psychologists. This position is full-time and all job responsibilities are completed on site in person. Job Duties
Summary of PCBH responsibilities:
Primary care psychologists (and those in training) are viewed as valuable team members and are consulted on a variety of concerns including depression, anxiety, acute stress disorder, smoking cessation, weight loss, and treatment adherence for chronic diseases such as COPD, heart failure, and diabetes
Fellows will provide targeted, evidence-based care through warm hand offs and brief episodes of treatment. Fellows collaborate with attending physicians, residents, psychiatrists, advanced practitioners, medical case managers, nursing staff, and medical pharmacists routinely to deliver comprehensive, quality care to patients.
The fellow will be at Mt. Pleasant clinic on Thursday and Fridays.
Summary of PsychoOncology responsibilities:
Provide integrated behavioral health care to cancer patients and their families, coordinating with medical providers.
Provide short-term outpatient psychotherapy, curbside consultations, and possibility of inpatient consultations.
Participate in disease-site specific tumor board meetings
Opportunity to collaborate with bone marrow transplant team and complete pre-transplant evaluations
The fellow will be at the Cancer Clinic on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
Responsibilities of all Geisinger Fellows:
Responsibilities include assessment, treatment plan, and documentation of patient encounters
Attendance at team huddles, provider meetings, and Medical Home meetings add additional interdisciplinary, team-based care opportunities.
In addition to clinical experience, the fellow will attend regular seminars with other Geisinger psychology fellows on professional topics (e.g., preparation for the EPPP, vita preparation, interviewing skills, salary negotiation) and specific health psychology topics (e.g., chronic pain, endocrine disorders, CBT for insomnia, LGBTQ and diversity training).
The fellow will also participate in two hours of individual supervision each week and will have ½ day of protected time for research and program development. Fellows may have the opportunity to work with the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine, train medical residents or students, and/or supervise PCBH interns.
