The position is located in the Veterans Integrated System Network (VISN 20) Clinical Resource Hub (CRH) located in Vancouver, WA and will be under the supervision of the Associate Director of Specialty Care. The role will provide Endocrinology services to network facilities through a combination of virtual and potential in-person care as part of a virtual interprofessional Endocrinology team providing Endocrinology care and/or consultation to Veterans patients. The duties and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following: Clinical Functions - Will be an independent care provider, highly skilled in the management of patient's endocrine and diabetes care needs. The position will be delivering all forms of virtual care (e-consults, telephone visits, VA Video Connect, clinic-based video-telehealth) and will as a member of an expanded healthcare team that may include social work, dietician, clinical pharmacists, behavioral health clinician, and a care manager to oversee and coordinate medical care for a population of Veterans. The duties and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following: Engages in direct patient contact or performs tasks defined by statute or recognized custom of medical practice within the bounds of state of licensure. Evaluates, diagnoses, provides treatment or consultative services to patients presenting with endocrine and metabolic diseases as defined by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the Subspecialty Board of Endocrinology. Performs initial histories and physical examination on outpatients using CVT technology and/or face-to-face visits. Provides ongoing outpatient care for assigned patients Screens outpatients to determine the need for further care Prescribes or recommends medications within defined scope of practice depending on model of care, telemedicine or teleconsultation Orders or refers for diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests, x-rays, electrocardiograms as clinically indicated. Reviews need for and orders health promotion and disease prevention measures Initiates, responds to and expedites request for consultations, special tests, and studies Provides education and counseling of patients and families in preventive care, medical conditions, and use of prescribed treatments and drugs. Beyond clinical responsibilities, a physician in Endocrinology may be involved in the education and training of endocrine fellows, house staff, medical students, and non-physician clinical trainees. The practice emphasizes evidence-based medicine, primary and secondary preventative medicine, the use of computerized medical record system and continuous quality improvement based on individualized provider data. The incumbent will take part in continuing medical education as defined by state of licensure, and quality assurance activities. Physicians may sometimes need to work alone but can request assistance from other medical staff (including other telehealth Endocrinology staff, as well as staff in the Emergency Room or inpatient service at the nearest VA medical center when needed). Special training will be provided to utilize CVT technology Administrative Functions - There will be minimal administrative duties/work however the position will be required to: Attends staff, team, and some committee meetings May be involved in peer review evaluations Time will be provided outside of assigned shift to complete this work.
