Work Hours/Shift: Full time, Days
You Will Be Responsible For:
Provides pediatric diabetes instruction in group and individual sessions, in accordance with patient education standards set by the American Diabetes Association and departmental policy. Provides education in all content areas, except individualized meal plan calculation for RN
Obtains individual patient assessment. Identifies patient/family problems or learning barriers including physical, cognitive, environmental, language/cultural, financial, psychosocial and spiritual and provides appropriate referral as necessary.
Participates in practice changes as a result of performance improvement activities. Accurately documents and monitors activities as needed. Supports quality standards and initiatives set by department.
Collaboration with inpatient staff involved in child’s care and regularly attends Pediatric Diabetes Collaborative Committee meetings.
Participates in community activities as requested for children and families with diabetes including but not limited to: Presentation of educational lectures to children, parents, healthcare professionals and the community in general and Diabetes camp experience.
Complies with the American Diabetes Association Education Recognition Program requirements for continuing education until CDE credential is obtained.
Educates patient/family about current areas of research both within and outside the AdventHealth Endocrine Center.
What You Will Need:
Associate of Science Degree in Nursing
Current, valid State of Florida license as a registered professional nurse
Bilingual candidate (Preferred)
One to three years of experience in field (Preferred)
One year of experience in diabetes specialty (Preferred)
Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (Preferred)
Certification with the National Certification Board of Diabetes Educators as Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) (Preferred)
The Pediatric Outpatient Diabetes Educator (RN), under general guidance, is responsible for providing age-specific and developmentally appropriate diabetes education to children, parents and other healthcare professionals. The Pediatric Educator, under general guidance, provides timely, effective and appropriate diabetes education and clinical management support for patients with diabetes and their caregivers.
