This position is in Nutrition and Food Service at the Washington DC VA Medical Center. The Food Service Worker performs duties that requires attention to work operations and follows set procedures in accomplishing repetitive assignments and follow an established sequence of work. Work is performed in one or more functional areas of the kitchen such as food preparation, dish washing, dry and refrigerated storage, receiving and the serving line. This is a bargaining position. -LiUNA is the union. Duties include but are not limited to: Select and place food items on patient trays as they proceed down the tray assembly line Identify obvious discrepancies between the prescribed diets and the food items designated by the menu Decide what food items to serve for the most common diets when the diet card identifies only the kind of diet called for, such as a liquid diet or diabetic diet Set up assigned station on the tray line with the correct supplies and food items, and break down and clean the station after the serving period. Deliver trays to the patient's bed and report the patient's comments and complaints to the supervisor or dietitian. Provide assistance to cooks in the food preparation area by weighing, measuring, and assembling ingredients according to standardized recipes. Prepare uncooked food items such as sandwich spreads and salad dressings. Work Schedule: 5 days per week; 8hrs per day; rotating weekends and holidays Position Description Title/PD#: Food Service Worker/51336A Physical Requirements: Incumbent stands and moves about on tile floors for most of tour. Frequent stoops, reaches, lifts, or carries food and kitchen equipment. Hand dexterity is necessary in the utilization of machines to prepare food. May need to lift up to 20 pounds unassisted or more with assistance.
