The primary purpose of the LVN is to perform assigned duties in a manner that promotes quality health care, position customer service and the maintenance of an environment committed to serving the veteran. The Licensed Vocational Nurse, GS-6 performs at a proficient level and has the knowledge and skills necessary for concentrated effort and self-direction in carrying out most complex practical nursing assignments. He/she is responsible for direct patient care activities under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN). The LVN GS-6 works in a self-directed manner which requires minimal supervision from the RN. The practical nurse seeks guidance from the RN when difficulty is encountered with the assignment. Completes assigned duties and responsibilities which involve performing nonstandard and specialized practical nursing activities, requiring broad work experience and demonstrated skill enough to resolve a range of nursing problems. Completed work needs only a general review by an RN for technical soundness, appropriateness and conformity with policy and nursing assignments. The Licensed Vocational Nurse, GS-5 performs at a competent level and has the knowledge and skills necessary for concentrated effort and self-direction in carrying out more complex practical nursing assignments. He/she is responsible for direct patient care activities under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN). The LVN GS-5 works in a self-directed manner which requires minimal supervision from the RN. The practical nurse seeks guidance from the RN when difficulty is encountered with the assignment. Completes assigned duties and responsibilities which involve performing standard practical nursing activities, requiring work experience and demonstrated skill enough to resolve a range of nursing problems. Completed work requires only a periodic review by an RN for technical soundness, appropriateness and conformity with policy and nursing assignments. The Licensed Vocational Nurse, GS-4 performs at an advanced beginner level and delivers safe physical and emotional care to patients with increasingly complex needs, in a variety of settings, while enhancing technical skills. The LVN GS-4 demonstrates a basic understanding of patient's physical and emotional needs by using a broad spectrum of technical skills to meet those needs. He/she is responsible for direct patient care activities under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN). The practical nurse seeks guidance from the RN when difficulty is encountered with the assignment. Completed work requires frequent review by an RN for completeness, technical soundness, appropriateness and conformity with policy and nursing assignments. The Licensed Vocational Nurse, GS-3 performs at a beginner level and delivers fundamental, knowledge-based care to assigned clients, under the supervision of a registered nurse, while developing technically competent skills. He/she is responsible for direct patient care activities under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN). The practical nurse seeks guidance from the RN when difficulty is encountered with the assignment. Completed work requires routine or detailed review by an RN for completeness, technical soundness, appropriateness and conformity with policy and nursing assignments. Preferred Experience: 1. At least 1 year of podiatry experience 2. At least 1 year of wound care, nail care and procedural experience 3. At least 1 year of experience working with diabetic patients and their care needs 4. At least 2 years of nursing experience 5. BLS Required Work Schedule: Various Tours of Duty to include days, weekends, and extended hours based on needs of service and organization. Tours of duty may include 7:00am - 3:30pm, 7:30am - 4:00pm, 7:30am-6:00pm, 8:00am - 4:30pm, 08:30am -5:00pm, 9:30am - 6:00pm, or 11:30am - 8:00pm, 1430-1830 and 0800-1200.
