Outpatient clinical nurse

JOB SUMMARY
• The Outpatient Clinical Staff Nurse is a registered professional nurse (RN) who supports the mission, vision, values of MWPH and uses the nursing process to provide high quality care to the population served according to the Master Plan for the Provision of Nursing Care and Services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION

• Complies with hospital nursing and departmental policies, procedures and regulatory standards.
• Coordinates care with the interdisciplinary team members to reach patient goals/outcomes
• Utilizes the nursing process to provide high quality patient care to the population served
• Provides patient and family education according to policy
• Participates in activities for continuing education, professional development, staff development, such as precepting new employees/students and serving on a nursing or unit committee.
• Participates in unit level performance improvement activities.
• Functions with a focus on patient safety and customer service

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• • Educational Requirements
    • Graduate of an NLN Accredited School of Nursing
    • BSN Preferred, Certified Diabetes Educator Preferred
  • Licensure, Certification and Registration
    • Current unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland.
                   o Current CPR
                   o Certification in Pediatric or Ambulatory Care Nursing preferred.
                   o PEARS requ
  • Work Orientation and Experience
    • Minimum two years recent full time pediatric or outpatient experience require
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • Demonstrates excellent customer service skills
    • Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively and courteously with patients, visitors and members of the health care team

    • Knowledge of and ability to perform duties in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, ANA Code of Ethics, ANA

    • Ability to position patients, lift 25 pounds, walk, run, sit, stand, stoop, bend, reach, push, pull and demonstrate manual dexterity, mobility, and visual and auditory ability to do this job
    • Experience with pediatric rehabilitation, psychiatry, neuro-behavorial / developmentally emotionally impaired patients, or in nursery, neonatal, or pediatric intensive care as applicable, is preferred.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

• • Supervision Receive
    • Reports directly to the Outpatient Clinical Manager.
  • Supervision Exercised
    • No direct line supervision. Coaches, collaborates, and provides clinical direction/guidance to Licensed Practical Nurses, Medical Assistants, and Unit Secretary

INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS

• • Directly interfaces with patients, visitors, physicians, and other healthcare team members.

TOOLS/EQUIPMENT USED

• • Operates patient care equipment specific to the needs, age and condition of the patient. Uses computer hardware and software, fax and Xerox machines.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT/WORKING CONDITIONS

• • Regular or continuous risk of exposure to body fluids, infectious waste or blood borne diseases requiring the use of personal protective equipment and adherence to established protocol. Occasionally subjected to irregular hours. Occasional stress due to emergency situations or multiple demands.
