Summer Camp Counselor Helping a Camper with Diabetes
March 1, 2019
Competitive salary, travel all
Contract - Entry Level
Camp Laurel is a private, residential children’s camp in Maine and this year will have a 14 year-old camper (male) who wears an insulin pump to manage his diabetes. The camper will be attending Camp Laurel for the seven-week season. The camp is a leading camp in the U.S. – however, it is not a diabetes camp. We are currently looking for a full-time male who can serve as a counselor in this camper’s cabin at camp. The counselor will participate fully in all aspects of camp life.
The position runs mid-June through mid-August (including a one-week Staff Orientation.)
The camper is very active and social. He tests blood glucose levels frequently to maintain activity level and keep good control.
The ideal candidate must be at least 18 years old, hardworking and extremely responsible. The person must enjoy working with kids and have a desire to work at a summer camp. The person must have knowledge of diabetes and how to manage it. A candidate who already wears an insulin pump would be helpful (Medtronic/Minimed, Animas, Omnipod, Disetronic, or any leading brand). It is not a mandatory requirement for the candidate to be a pump user or a diabetic. For example, we will consider a candidate with a sibling who has diabetes.
