DUTIES: This position is located at our Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) located in the southern Virginia community of Emporia. This position provides primary care for adult and geriatric Veterans who have a wide spectrum of diagnoses. The selectee is expected to practice in accordance within professional standards of care, core values and with a commitment to excellence. The selectee is expected to participate in staff meetings, educational activities, administrative and other duties as assigned.
The CBOC utilizes the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model. Physicians practice within this team model alongside other clinical and administrative professionals. The PACT team provides primary care services, including chronic disease management and preventive health. Common diagnoses encountered include, but are not limited to, diabetes, hypertension, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, degenerative arthritis, depression, congestive heart failure, and chronic pain. The physician cares for a panel of approximately 1,200 patients.
The physician evaluates, diagnoses, treats, and provides consultation for adult patients. The physician works collaboratively with other specialties in and outside of the VA system to manage or co-manage patients. Mental health services are available on-site. Full specialty medical, surgical and mental health services are available through consult to the Richmond VA Medical Center.
Board certification in internal medicine or family medicine is preferred. Experience with an electronic medical record is preferred."
Work Schedule:Monday - Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to include required Saturday clinic hours, extended weekday clinic hours may be needed.

Salary: The applicant's education and experience will be reviewed by a Compensation Panel in determining the salary of the applicant selected. The recommended salary may be at any point in the range listed for this vacancy.
Basic requirements -
Citizenship of the United States. Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with Department of Veterans Affairs policy.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Completion of a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Physical Requirements - The physical requirements of this position include lifting, prolonged standing and sitting, frequent bending, walking (distance), climbing, reaching (overhead, extensive/repetitive), repetitive motionand stooping. The mental/sensory requirements include recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, keyboarding, reading and logical thinking. The environment's pace can vary from steady to a sometimes fast pace requiring handling of multiple priorities, frequent, sometimes intense customer interactions, and the ability to adapt to frequent changes in a sometimes noisy environment. There may be the need to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to disease, illness and hazardous materials.
