The Stead Family Department of Pediatrics seeks a Director of Allergy and Immunology at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor (clinical or tenure track). The individual selected will be responsible for leading the growth and expansion of the Allergy and Immunology program with vibrant research, clinical, and educational components, in concert with the opening of a new free-standing 189-bed Children’s Hospital in 2016 and with a major initiative in the Carver College of Medicine to recruit outstanding investigators across the translational science spectrum. Substantial resources are available to build this program with the goal of becoming a national center of excellence in Allergy and Immunology. The Director will have the opportunity to recruit a number of additional faculty.
Requirements: Must hold an MD/DO degree, or equivalent Board certified or eligible in Pediatrics or Internal Medicine Board certified or eligible in Pediatric Allergy/Immunology Clinical experience in pediatrics Demonstrated commitment to diversity in the educational community
Desirable qualifications: Demonstrated success at obtaining extramural research funding Demonstrated leadership experience in an academic pediatric setting Experience in basic, translational, or patient-oriented research Teaching competence in pediatrics for medical students and residents Evidence of scholarly activity Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine is one of the top biomedical research institutions in the nation and ranked 41st overall and 20th among public medical schools for NIH funding in FY14. The U.S. News and World Report research ranking places the College 11th among public institutions, and the Stead Family Department of Pediatrics ranked 24th overall and 13th in NIH funding among all public pediatric departments nationwide in FY14. The ACGME-accredited pediatric residency program at the Children’s Hospital trains 42 pediatric residents.
The Stead Family Department of Pediatrics comprises the medical and research staff of UI Children’s Hospital. The University of Iowa Children’s Hospital is one of the nation’s top-ranked pediatric care and research institutions. It is the only university-affiliated hospital in Iowa devoted solely to the care of infants, children, adolescents and young adults, and is Iowa’s only accredited Level 1 Regional Resource Pediatric Trauma Center. In 2015-16 the University of Iowa Children's Hospital ranked in nine pediatric specialties in the Best Children’s Hospitals U.S. News and World Report, including cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, neonatology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology, and urology. A new 189-bed children’s hospital opened in February 2017.
